Shirin Shanti’s Land Grabbing Allegations Shake Dhaka’s Mirpur District

Land Grabber Awami League’s Shirin Shanti Accused of Land Encroachment

In Dhaka’s Mirpur 12th Section, allegations of land encroachment have been leveled against Shirin Shanti, a prominent leader of the Awami League. It is said that she has a penchant for seizing land, building houses on it, and then selling them.

The allegations include the establishment of a rickshaw garage on the seized land. Furthermore, it is reported that her family has been involved in drug trafficking and land grabbing in the area.

On-site inspection reveals that a luxurious house has been built on encroached land in the sand field of Block D, Section 12, Mirpur, though the owner of this land is the National Housing Authority. During the tenure of the Awami League government, MP Ilyas Uddin Mollah of Dhaka-16 allegedly used his influence to render the National Housing Authority powerless.

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that drug transactions occur regularly around this luxurious house.

Additional allegations include that Shirin Shanti’s husband, Wajuddin, who was previously a rickshaw driver, has become a billionaire due to his wife’s influence. It is claimed that, under the protection of the Awami League MP, they have forcibly seized land from helpless locals, including a bus owner named Kamrul Islam who previously ran a bus company called “Poristan Paribahan”. Allegations suggest that the couple used threats and weapons to forcibly take over the company.

It is also reported that Shirin Shanti, along with her son Sagar, her son-in-law’s brother Minu, and Hasan, attacked unarmed students and the public to suppress the student movement against discrimination. After the fall of the Hasina government on August 5, the family reportedly went into hiding due to fear of the student protests. During the movement, Shirin Shanti allegedly posted anti-movement content on her Facebook page, but all such posts and related videos were deleted after the government’s fall.

However, Shirin Shanti, the accused land grabber and drug dealer, denies these allegations, claiming that the land is inherited through her family.

It is also reported that she has become a suspect in a murder case at Pallabi Police Station.
